STORYLINE: Follows the Minions in 1920s Hollywood as they search for frightening creatures for their monster movie, partner with a green creature, and must save the planet after unleashing monsters. (IMDb)

     Gloria Swanson had her close up in Sunset Boulevard (1950), as a movie diva trying to stay relevant in the movie industry.  In 1952, Gene Kelly went Singin’ in the Rain, as he danced is way through a movie about making motion pictures.  Johnny Depp stepped behind the camera in the biopic Ed Wood (1994), to portray the cult classic director.  Now the minions bring their shenanigans to the motion, picture industry, as they make a feature film, in Minions and Monsters. 

    The little yellow fellows first made their way on to the big screen, in the 2010 feature Despicable Me.   In 2015, they had their own spin off, in the origin story Minions.  There is something entertaining about the gibberish speaking, yellow sidekicks, or the third film in their spinoff franchise would not be in theaters now.

   Minions and Monsters is a typical minions movie. It is filled with the usual hijinks, that fans of the little guys have come to expect.  Outside of a shenanigan filled cameo during the end credits, which is irrelevant to the story, Gru is gone from this motion picture. This makes this truly a minions movie. Adding to the appeal, at least to this film buff, a history of the early days of the motion picture industry is Incorporated into the movie.

    Minions and Monsters appeals greatly to its target, elementary and preteen age audience members. As a fan of sarcasm, I enjoyed the humor spread throughout the ninety minute movie. Any longer then ninety minutes, my attention would have been strained. 

    This is a mindless summer blockbuster for a younger audience, with a bit of film history I enjoyed.
