STORYLINE: Four years have passed since the events of No Way Home, and Peter is now an adult living entirely alone, having voluntarily erased himself from the lives and memories of those he loves.     Spiderman swung into the MCU, in 2016, in the Captain America feature Captain America: Civil War.  He was welcomed home in his own solo MCU adventure Spider-Man: Homecoming, the very next year. In 2018 he assembled along side the Avengers, to once again save the day, I’m Avengers: Infinity War.  It’s a brand new day for the web slinger, as his latest solo motion picture Spider-Man: Brand New Day, has brought Spidey back into theaters. 

    The MCU has been going strong since it’s first release in 2008m with Ironman. With the exception of 2020, when the pandemic put the world on pause, there have been multiple films released every year. 2026 is no different, between Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and this winters release of Avengers: Doomsday.  Both titles are destined to be mega hits, at the box office.

    That pleases me. I like it when a movie does well, even if I do not care for it. I like seeing my local movie theaters, both the multiplex that I go to, as well as the small, indie theater, have business. 

    Returning to the subject at hand, with multiple superhero releases every year from the MCU, combined with DC film releases, there has been a flood of heroic characters, saving the day.  Theater screens have been overcrowded with these movies.  The excitement and spectacle of them has worn down for me, and superhero fatigue has set in.  I look forward to the occasional superhero flick, such as last years Superman, and was pleasantly surprised that how 2025’s Fantastic Four ended up being. Otherwise, I sit down, and watch these cookie cutter films, two – three times a year, and come out feeling underwhelmed. 

    Spider-Man: Brand New Day, was no exception for me.  It was a visual effect filled, run of the mill reboot, of sorts, Spider Man movie, that did not need to be two and a half hours.  By the way why are The majority of the MCU films that long now? 

    When they first started, they were a an entertaining two hours.   

Where did these extra 30 minutes come from?

    The villain of this film is Jean Grey.  This seems like an excuse to announce the X-Men’s arrival in the MCU, before the release of Avengers: Doomsday.

    Spider-Man: Brand New Day was a two and a 2 hour and a half hour movie, that should’ve been two hours, that was just another run of the mill, repetitive MCU feature film.
