    In the summer of 1983, the horror came to Sleepaway Camp.  The phone rang, terrifying the neighborhood kids in Black Phone (2021).  Of course, I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997).  With the long days of summer getting shorter, there is one more summer scare, being served, with the new release Ice Cream Man.

     I have written, on multiple occasions, how, there’s been an uptick in the quality of horror films over the past few years.  Immaculate (2024), The Substance (2024), Sinners (2025), and Weapons (2025) are just a few examples. Weapons has been the best of those features. This year has even brought some high caliber titles in Hokum and Send Help.  Though it is a mediocre movie at best, Obsession, is still a lot of fun to watch.  Where does Ice Cream Man fall into the mix?

    The motion picture is directed by Eli Roth.  The movie features the kills associated with his films.  The violence is not as graphic, or as intense, as you would find in the directors 2005 feature Hostel. It is more in line with the Terrifier franchise.  In fact, I will describe Ice Cream Man as a cross between Terrifier (2016) and Weapons.  From a certain point of view, this is a zombie flick.  There zombies are cursed instead of infected.

    There is not a lot to Ice Cream Man.  The premise is simple, and been done before. It’s a fun watch, if you’re in the horror films. Typically I would call this a popcorn, flick, but I think an ice cream cone for the brain is a better term here.

   I conclude with a random fun fact, at least I think it is a 

 fun fact.  Eli Roth directed a non-horror, family, friendly feature film titled The House With a Clock in its Walls (2018), starring Jack Black and Cate Blanchett.  It has been a while since I have seen it, but I remember really enjoying it, and liking the goth feeling it had.

    There is nothing special to Ice Cream Man.  For fans of horror features, this is a mindless flick to sit back, and enjoy.
