   In 2025, the phone rang again in the horror sequel, Black Phone 2.   In 2025, the days and weeks turned into years in 28 Years Later.  The book of the dead had a new chapter written in 2026’s Evil Dead Burn.  Continuing the trend of horror, franchise entries, is this weekends ghostly release, Insidious: Out of the Further. 

     Ghost stories do come in all cinenatic shapes and sizes. How many Scooby Doo mysteries are ghost themed?  The 1990 Patrick Swayze movie Ghost, is on many viewers playlist every Valentine’s Day.  Typically though ghost films are reserved for horror fanatics.  The Insidious franchise, and its latest entry, Insidious: Out of the Further, fall into the stereotype of horror ghost features. 

   With this motion picture, the Insidious series, now has six films on its roster.  Nothing much has changed, to the formula of the franchise, since the release of the initial film in 2010.  Why should it?  After all, it’s working.  Fans of the series, and horror movies are returning to watch the movies. 

    Insidious: Out of the Further, does tinker with the franchise formula a tad. The film gives the central character the ability to bring ghosts from the Further, into are world. This scary premise seems designed to propel the franchise forward, instead of fall ong inline with the same general premise of the previous five features. 

    With the generic scares of the past Insidious films, Insidious: Out of the Further quickly falls into that familiar franchise territory.  It ends up being another, run of the mill, mediocre entry of the series. 

    For those uninitiated with horror films, who have a desire to see what they are about, this franchise franchise is a safe place to start.  The scares are tame, the plots aren’t complicated, and they are entertaining throughout. Even if you are already in the horror and I’ve not seen these, they’re worth a watch once.

   Insidious: Out of the Further is the sixth entry in a predictable and entertaining franchise, that uses its story to propel the franchise forward, without breaking from the formula.
