    In 2002, Cillian Murphy woke up 28 Days Later, to a world filled with zombies.  Charlton Heston discovered an apocalyptic world, dominated by apes in Planet of the Apes (1968), which is my one of favorite science fiction movies.   The world began to fall apart ib 1979’s Mad Max, and Mel Gibson roamed a post apocalyptic world throughout the franchise. The Dog Stars, is the latest film, to take cinema goers beyond the fall of civilization. 

   The concept of  post apocalyptic features is pretty grimm.  The common thread is the fall of humanity, and the films track the survivors, in some fashion. The Dog Stars colors inside the lines, of a textbook post apocalyptic motion picture.

    There are no zombies, no creatures to haunt the last of the human race, in this movie. Disease, like the flu, has crippled mankind.  This approach gives the movie a since of realism, especially after the 2020 pandemic. 

   The Dog Stars has the thrills that come with motion pictures, within the genre. There are exciting, semi adrenaline filled chase sequences. Also, sprinkle in are the moments of fright.

    Much like 28 Days Later, The Dog Stars follows its primary character, as he travels throughout the 

post apocalyptic world.  This, is allowing him to explore the world around him, and meet others as they survive the new world.  The movie does so with a a western like feel to it.

    The Dog Stars might not be the best of movies, but it certainly hits the spot for entertainment.  It doesn’t hurt that Josh Brolin has a supporting role. I’ve been a fan of his ever since the one two punch of No Country for Old Men(2007) and Milk (2008).

    The Dog Stars is an entertaining, post apocalyptic textbook,  feature presentation!
