    Mel Gibson attempted to discover What Women Want, in 2000.  Amanda Seyfried traveled to Vienna to read Letters to Juliet (2010).  OK, that one’s a huge guilty pleasure of mine.  I highly recommend it, and a mindless, kind of way, and have given the DVD as a holiday gift on multiple occasions. In 2023, audiences discovered there was Anyone But You, for both Glen Powell and Sidney Sweeney.  Finding Emily, is the latest romantic comedy, to sweep movie goers off their feet.  

    The formula for rom coms hasn’t changed since the creation of celluloid. Boy and girl meet, want very little to do with one another, through the course of the motion picture realize they are perfect for each other, and end  up in love. Along the way laughs, some awkward, are provided to the audience. Finding Emily is a rom com to a T.

    As it colors inside the rom com lines, Finding Emily simultaneously showcases the 2026 era.  The film fills its quest for romance with social media, podcasts, influencers, and the options of the internet, as a whole.  A protest movement finds its into the narrative of the film as well.

    This comedy looses its humor, as it attempts to take to high of a morale high ground. At some point, someone involved should be reminded that this is just a movie, a simple comedy, not a political debate.  

    I have said it before, romantic comedies were the best in the 90s.  Titles like The American President (1995) and Sleepless in Seattle (1993) prove that point.  Please don’t get me wrong, I have enjoyed post 90s romcoms, I mentioned Letters  to Juliet being guilty pleasure at the start of this blog, they were just better before the calendar turned on the millennium.

    Finding Emily was a swing and a niss.  It took the comedy put of romantic comedy by becoming a modern day issue movie.
