STORYLINE: When a team of young doctors embark on a local humanitarian mission through the Amazon rain forest, it soon becomes clear that not everyone – or everything – is happy to see them. Their arrival draws the attention of an ancient predator, the “Boiúna.” This ancient killer, dominant on land and water, clashes with the group to reclaim the jungle. What follows is a fight for survival in which the roles of hunter, prey and hero become unpredictable. Set against the backdrop of Brazil’s Curuçá River in the present day. (IMDb)
The hunt was on for a gigantic crocodile, as it terrorized Lake Placid (1999). In 2006, snakes took to the skies, in Snakes on Plane. A bear was running wild in the groovy B movie Grizzly (1976). Beware Boiúna, with its giant snake, has slithered into movie theaters.
B movies have an extra level of fun built into them. It could ne they are more on the hokey side, of things. Beware Boiúna, a creature feature, should go for B movie status.
The problem with the film is that it takes itself to seriously. The general premise of the motion picture, is a group of humanitarians being chased by a giant snake. It’s creature of local myth. It’s a hokey, B premise, presented as an A movie horror movie. Beware Boiúna falls short of both, as it ends in limbo between the two.
The visual rggecys are on par with a 90’s creature feature. Think something similar to Anaconda (1997), with more CGI.
Beware Boiúna is a 2026 creature feature that took itself to seriously.
Until next time, I will see you at the movies!
