STORYLINE: The story of the iconic role that saved America’s most-beloved actor. (IMDb)
In 1992, the life of Chatlie Chaplin was told in the motion picuture Chaplin. Joan Crawford had her life story told in the biopic Mommie Dearest (1981). The Audrey Hepburn Story (2001) told the story of Audrey Hepburn. Now, it’s time for James Stewart to have his own biopic, with the release of the film Jimmy.
James Stewart is my favorite actor. The Spirit of St Louis (1957) and Rear Window (1954) are my personal favorite films, he made. When Fathom Events released, Jimmy, in theaters, I eagerly reserved my normal seat.
The biopic is bookended by two of his iconic features, The Philadelphia Story (1940) and It’s a Wonderful Life (1947). The primary focus, of the film, is the actors time as a pilot during WWII. Yes, this is part a war film.
It’s not just battles, that are shown. The film shows how the actor is effected personally by his time, during the war.
In the third act, Jimmy, goes into the difficulties he had of filming the iconic film It’s a Wonderful Life. The difficulties were a result of PTSD from time during the war.
It was fascinating to get a glimpse into my favorite actor. I appreciated that the movie focused, mostly, on a time in his life outside of Hollywood. When it brought the movies into the picture, it was an intimate look, at one of the actor’s most famous motion pictures.
Jimmy is a biopic about actor James Stewart, focusing on his time during World War II, and touching on this time in Hollywood briefly.
Until next time, I’ll see you at the movies!
